There are many ways to sample and enjoy the unique flavours of North American craft beers. By far the most enjoyable way is to get on a plane and fly west for eleven hours. Heck fly east all the way round if you really want to have some fun!! In particular, try out California, the Pacific North West or Colorado for the widest ranges of craft beers. In these parts of the world beer shelves look like we expect wine displays to look. Beer is purchased based on the food that it will be eaten with, premium craft brewers supply ranges of beers driven purely by what they want to brew and you’ll get to enjoy some pretty fine parts of the world. Pack an umbrella if you are going to the Pac North West though!
Outside of that you have craft brewers in every state in America, from Alaskan smoked porters to Hawaiian golden ales and every other location in the Union. Most towns have a microbrewery or brewpub. The difference between a microbrewery and a brewpub is clearly defined but for you and me it comes down to the line that brewpubs are those restaurants and bars that brew beer for on premise consumption whereas a microbrewer is a small batch supplier of both keg and bottled products.
What makes it over to this side of the pond is the product of their big, all grown up and shaving, brothers the craft brewers. These are, generally, independent breweries whose supply is beyond the threshold to make them bigger than microbreweries (its 465,000 US Gallons if you want to remember the actual number in case it ever comes up in a quiz). They do, however, still brew to the mantra of creativity and imagination that drove the movement to what it is today.
Therefore, if a trip across a few time zones is beyond you then read on to find out how you can get your paws on some craft beer.
While shopping around you are also welcome to take opportunity to buy yourself some of the cool Highway 49 gear that is in the shop there OK, that last bit was a shameless plug but even us New Age hippies are allowed the odd one here and there.

Where can I buy Highway 49?
We’re not going to kid you that we are the only people in the United Kingdom that sell North American craft beers. And we’re also not going to kid you that you shouldn’t be looking at the other beers. That’s one of the delights of the craft beer arena, the philosophy dictates that craft beer wins even the supposed competition. It’s not Sun Tzu and ‘my enemies enemy is my friend’ but craft brewers just feel that it is better than leaving you wallowing in a world of pedestrian fizziness.
So check out the other craft beers available in the UK and enjoy. Obviously, we think ours are the best, we’ve spent hours of bartime tasting and referencing beers from all across North America and we feel confident that we have it right. And that brings us to where you can buy our beers, which comes down to three main options. The first is to go to your local off license or supermarket and if they don’t have Highway 49 let them know, in no uncertain terms, that they are lesser people for not stocking it and if they don’t give up some space to the best craft beer available they will pay in another life.
Your other choice, which isn’t quite so problematic, is to find an outlet that stocks Highway 49. Now, we don’t hide from the fact that we’re not in every supermarket from east to west but we are working on it, with considerable success.
OK, in a few months this section will be rammed to the rafters with lists of shops who can't shut their front doors for Highway 49 in the aisles, filling the fridges and maybe even under the bed above the shop. However, for now you can send us a mail or give us a ring and we'll get some to you somehow. In the meantime, relax and have a craft beer. If you can't get one out of a pack of Highway 49, try a Sierra Nevada, Sam Adams or Anchor Steam. All very pleasant tipples and I don't mind telling you we still drink them here from time to time (even keeping pace with the competition is fun in craft beer land).
And if you still have a craving for craft beer but don’t want to worry yourself schlepping back and forth to the off license or wine merchant then there is an alternative. We sell cases of Highway 49 for home delivery. These cases contain a selection of the beers you might like, you can even choose which ones you want if you rather. We’re still working on the engine to allow you to buy it online so in the meantime why don’t you send a mail and let us know what you want and we can put it together, get it in the post for you and before the sun has come up five times you can be sitting drinking the best beers from North America in the way they were meant to be enjoyed.
